Week 11 Energy initiatives of Darling Quarter

Darling Quarter incorporate a number of energy initiatives to assist in achieving high level of sustainable. The following diagram is the summary of the energy strategies.

As the diagram shows, the solar protection façade design incorporates shading to increase thermal comfort, reduce discomfort glare and cooling loads. The automated timber blinds were installed internally of western façade. Moreover, the solar shading system that mixes horizontal and vertical louver systems was used in north and east facades. The solar protection façade improves the thermal performance of the building, maximizes the utilization of the daylight and controls solar gain. In addition, revolving type of entry doors in the ground floor aim to prevent ingress of unconditioned outside air. Full height atrium aims to maximize daylight penetration to internal space. Single pass air-conditioning and green roof improve the thermal comfort. Car park equipped with VSDs to control speed of ventilation and minimize CO accumulation based on car park use. Tri-generation systems of Darling Quarter use nature gas as the primary energy to generate electricity, heating and cooling. Two natural gas generators located in the ground floor of each building supply part of the buildings electricity in Darling Quarter.
