Week 9 Building water-saving measure

Building water saving is a systems engineering. It should meet the water requirement first then take measures to improve the efficient utilization of water:

1. Set up the rain water recycling system

At the present stage of rainwater reuse are mainly three aspects: regulating emissions, ground water infiltration, roof rainwater recycling. Rainwater reuse system is an important measure to save water and advocate green building. LEED established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is increasingly widely accepted. The water related scores have 5 points, accounting for 7% of the total score. Moreover, the main concepts are rainwater recycling, utilization and management. The purpose is to save water and reduce the amount of municipal water.

2. Set up the water reuse system

Reclaimed water comes from the drainage water in the building, including sewage and waste in the daily life of the people. The water includes cooling water drainage, bath drainage, laundry drainage, kitchen drainage and other drainage. Reclaimed water refers to the drainage water after treatment and achieves the required water quality standards. Therefore, it can be reused (except drinking water). Building water reuse system is a good measure to save water, not only to protect the environment, but also greatly improve the efficiency of water use.

3. Improve the urban pipe network supply system

Strengthen the pipe network maintenance to reduce leakage. In the building water supply pipe network system, the leakage phenomenon is more common which could result in a serious waste of water resources. The reason for this phenomenon is the quality of the pipe and construction; Second reason is the pipeline service life is long and they may corrode by acid and have other mechanical damage that can lead to leakage. Therefore, improving the pipe and construction quality, strengthen the inspection and maintenance of the pipe network are also ways to save water.
